Assessment pertaining to learning encourages all students to take responsibility for and be more active in their own learning. Wikipedia defines the ultimate purpose of analysis for learning: " to develop self-regulated students who can leave school capable and confident to stay learning throughout their lives. ”

There are two styles of examination for learning - formative and summative assessment. Summative assessment usually takes the form of end of term/year/topic testing or tests, whereas conformative assessment can be ongoing over the term/year and requires the engagement of the tutor, TA and pupil. It involves explaining the learning aims and anticipated learning outcomes to students and examining their knowledge of this. It then involves assisting them personal assess. This often depends on peer examination, which will help build their home assessment expertise. The students then commence to self evaluate their own job, noting equally their achievements and what they could improve one, keeping in mind the learning objective and how far or close they may be to this. Also within the formative analysis framework happen to be open concluded questions, findings, checking on operate and other strategies throughout the term/year.

This has lots of advantages for the pupils inside their learning.
