COMMUNICATIONS IN THE WORKPLACE
During spring and summertime of 98 I underwent a six month internship in the info services department of a significant company in my own country Botswana. The company , Botswana power company may be the sole producer and distributor of electric power in Botswana. As a organization with branches from coast to coast it is simple to realize why communication would be crucial to your day to day procedures of the company all together. With regard to clarity however Im likely to limit the focus of the paper to the info servives departmentin that i worked.
My internship position was at the firms hq in Gaborone .As intern it didn't take me much time to understand that virtually all the departments needed the solutions of the IS section in a single way or the various other.The IS division was essentially in charge of user support,themaintainance ,fix and upgrade of personal computers and training of company personnel.
By far the most significant responsibility of the section was user support.Employees from departments all around the complex would contact any problems they had with their computer systems. These problems will be on paper on a work order type and the taken care of in due course.For this reason members of the department personnel needed effective listening skills .I realized that when working with a user it had been very important to me to solicit as much responses as possible from their website. I'd ask questions and paraphrase what these were saying to be able to better understand the nature of the difficulty.This was important
